My yellow guppy going red?

Question: I have a guppy thats really yellow and I looked today and its really red!!! whats wrong?

Answer: Have you had the guppy for a while? If he's relatively new, are you feeding him food with color enhancers? Some of the pigments in the food may be causing him to develop more red coloration. It's also possible the color wasn't fully developed if he was still very young when you got him. I've been breeding turquoise/green guppies and just had one of the fry (who had a beautiful turquoise tail until about two weeks ago) become a red-tail. If the entire tail isn't red, just in streaks, check your water quality - too much ammonia in water (from the fish wastes) can cause red streaks to appear on the body and in the fins. There's also a bacterial infection (septicemia) that causes red streaks. You can find out more about those and their treatments in this link: http://www.fish-disease.net/diseases.htm
