Answer: Yes you can. Opal is mainly hydrated silica (SiO2.nH2O). Like most rocks, it may contain miniscule amounts of uranium or other radioactive elements, but definately nothing to worry about. Certainly much less than zircon jewels or the luminous hands on your watch.
