What can I do to make my African Violet pedals more green and shiny.?

Question: I have seen some that look like a deep green and lustre pedals. Do I need a fertilizer or do I need to put something on the actual leaf? thanks oops i mean i knw they are "petals" are fuzzy. but whn i wen to my uncles house in puerto rico his african violets were a deep green they just looked so healthy. i guess fertilizer it is.

Answer: Petals, not pedals (those are on bicycles). African violet leaves are naturally hairy, never shiney. Take a soft brush (like a paint brush) and clean them. You can wash the leaves in warm water, no soap. Ditto info on giving the plant a bit of fertilizer to green up the leaves, but they will never be dark green. Could be your plant needs slightly more light, but not direct sunlight.
