Question:
Answer: Abalone is now VERY hard to find. Hence, it has become VERY expensive. The last time I had it was about 10 years ago. It has a mild taste, and is truly a great "comfort" food. If you would like to taste it, save the $80 to $100 price per pound it costs to buy it. Instead, buy calamari (or squid if you're not squeamish). Remove the tentacles and intestines, and butterfly it into a steak. Pound it lightly with a mallet, lightly bread it, and saute it in olive oil. Easy does It. 20 to 30 seconds per side. Then taste it. It's very similar to abalone.
